Cute video: Santa uses sign language to make Christmas special for three-year-old girl

Sarah-Jane Murphy

A family visit to see Santa Clause is a well established tradition in most Irish homes.

Sometimes things run smoothly and there are no tears, sometimes little ones take fright at the sight of a red-clad man with a huge white beard.

But this story is heartwarming.

A video of Santa signing to a little girl who has hearing problems has gone viral.

Viewers see the child's mother explaining to Santa that she can't talk very well due to her poor hearing.

Santa responds by asking if the little girl can sign, to which her mother replies "she does animals and things like that."

The footage was filmed at the Cleveland Shopping Centre in Middlesbrough and was posted to their Facebook page where it has been viewed 189,000 times.

One commenter said that Santa made her proud to be from Middlesbrough -

"I have 2 children both with different needs and this Santa makes me beam with pride to be from the boro. He is a credit to the centre and to the name Santa. Totally amazing and fantastic to see him putting children at ease. Truly a miracle on 34th St. Santa in our own town."

A spokesman for the shopping centre said that the incident truly showed the magic of Christmas.

"Santa will take his time with each and every child and will try and put a smile on their faces," he said.
