The sight of festive wreaths and glittering fairy lights might come as a bit of a shock to those strolling through Brown Thomas this week as stores in Limerick, Cork and Dublin prepare to launch their annual Christmas markets... four months ahead of the big day.

With only 127 days to go until Santa comes calling a section dedicated to baubles, glass decorations, wreaths, trees and Christmas cards and crackers will pop-up in Brown Thomas stores on Thursday.

Although temperatures for the latter part of this week are expected to reach 20C°, staff inside the department store’s branches throughout the country will be lapping up the markets which each boast different themes including ‘I Love Candy’, ‘Santa’s Journey’ and ‘Ice Palace’.

While some bah-humbugs have been criticising the early launch of the market, Brown Thomas has previously noted that many of their decorations are often out of stock by the time Halloween comes around.

“Brown Thomas must be kidding.. We haven't even had our September Summer yet,” remarked Twitter user Rowan Copeland.

Joan Cooke tweeted: “Brown Thomas obviously don't buy into "mindfulness". Christ almighty, their Christmas shops open this Thursday.”
