Carolyn Donnelly's latest collection at Dunnes Stores is all about comfort and layering shapes that skim the body beautifully, while sports-inspired sandals complement her smart casual range.
With years of experience comes serious knowledge of what women really want in their wardrobes. Carolyn Donnelly's The Edit has earned a reputation as a go-to range in recent years, because of the designer's take on that fashion chestnut, 'comfortable smart casual.'
We've come to expect 'thrown on' but flattering casuals from the brand - that also wash like a dream. This season, Carolyn has developed the concept of lightweight separates that pony up with other colours and pretty prints. They combine equally well if you are layering linens in lovely washed out hues.
"Our treatment of linen in this collection is one where we team it with soft 100pc cotton jersey for a comfort that's easy but always chic," said Carolyn.
Both cloths are washed for a relaxed, soft handle and come in faded colours of pink, khaki, charcoal, blue, white and black. For me, the flattering 'hero' dress is the button-back dress in khaki (see right) which is a mix of cotton on the top and sleeves, and linen on the lower half.
Her salt and pepper 'black' waffle coat (pictured above) also comes in a blue which has a feel of easy sophistication.
Those who dislike ironing should zone in on the printed kaftan (see right) in blue, which also comes in khaki, and arrives in stores at the end of the month.
Give your favourite jeans a fresh new look with a linen pocket-front shirt which comes in optic white or charcoal (see p19) and is the epitome of smart casual when worn with sleeves rolled up over cotton pants in white or navy.
Accessories include great sport-inspired sandals with a chunky heel in red and white, and a super flat white slip-on sandal with a pleated leather front. The beginning of May will see the launch of a high summer espadrille collection made by hand in Portugal.
