Behind the Lens: Irish photographers show their work
"This image was made in early January 2012, in the first days of a year-long project which would take me on a 3,500km walking journey throughout Spain, Portugal and the south of France.
I was seeking to make a series of quiet, meditative images, which would engage the viewer in the walk and evoke a sense of the subtle internal changes and heightened awareness of your surroundings, which can happen when walking long distances.
This particular scene stopped me in my tracks. It felt like a clash of two worlds, and the lush growth under such a heavy foreboding overpass reminded me that once we give ourselves the time to slow down and take notice, we can enjoy the landscape anywhere."
