Bairbre Power ...Out and about
Couturier Peter O'Brien throws a great party with the most interesting cross section of guests drawn from the world of the arts, theatre, politics, fashion and they all share something in common...they love his beautifully constructed clothes.
Peter's latest collection for Dunnes Stores was launched in store with snipes of Champagne and lots of enthusiastic ladies dashing into the changing rooms to try on his navy pleated numbers. I'm tipping his elegant three-button cream coat for lots of horse racing action this season. Peter was thoughtful enough to invite students from IADT Dun Laoghaire where he teaches costume design for screen and stage and I also met Senator Catherine Noone wearing a vivid shade of pink and her fashion bestie, stylist Marietta Doran. Peter, pictured in the middle of the ladies, was on the receiving end of lots of compliments for his beautiful diamond brooches which he collects with such a passionate and expert eye.
Party pampering has moved on quite a bit. Complimentary file and polish for the girls is popular, along with super quick portraiture - but complimentary sneaker cleaning? Yes indeed, a guy with great, clean kicks is always to be admired and there was a complimentary sneaker-cleaning pop-up by KULTR at the recent Brown Thomas menswear party. The event in their Grafton Street store was attended by 80 guests who were treated to a presentation showcasing SS19 collections.
I chatted to BT staffers Steve Burnett and Louise Joyce, and of course they already knew most of the stock because they had bought it! Guests enjoyed a drinks reception, a DJ set from Tara Stewart and a live performance from artist Jafaris.
I caught up with Lorraine Keane at the Ice Bar in the Intercontinental after her Fashion Relief show in the RDS in aid of Oxfam. She told me they are bringing a pop-up of donated designer clothes, shoes and bags to Dundrum Town Centre as part of 'Shop For Good' on April 6 and 7.
