Bairbre Power... Out and about
Our resident diarist calls into the best parties and events around the country
The Mint Velvet breakfast in Rathmines was memorable for filling an optimistically sunny January morning full of colour and summer planning.
Autumn Moore from the British brand talked us through the new looks packed with lots of zizzy citrus colours and was photographed with Karen Koster. Koster was on the receiving end of lots of compliments for the documentary, Mammy Guilt, part of TV3's True Lives series. The Exposé presenter is mum to Finn (3), JJ (21 months) and is expecting her third child in early June.
Sundays at the Showcase trade event in the RDS is always a lovely opportunity to catch up with retailers who support Irish fashion. I met Marian O'Gorman, CEO of Kilkenny Shop who has been so loyal to Irish producers for decades, and her daughter, Melissa, doing the rounds.
Kieran Mulhern of Triona in Donegal told me he was thrilled with the reaction to their collection, modelled by Sarah Morrissey in a slick show produced by Catherine Condell.
Kieran worked in the hospitality industry abroad and returned to work in the company his father Denis started in 1984 and named after Kieran's sister, Catriona.
Breege O'Donoghue, former retail guru at Primark, was celebrating her first year in the job as Chair of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland. She has started work on the book, which was suggested by George Weston, and she told me she was in London last week progressing what should be a mighty fine read.
Congratulations to Áine Knitwear run by Áine Behan from Co Clare, which won overall best product for Behan's A-Line wool dress at Showcase in Dublin's RDS. Best product in the home category went to Foxford Woollen Mills in Co Mayo for its woollen cushions.
Róisín Lawless, pictured above with blonde jeweller Chloe Towsend, has designs on your nails. Last week she opened her new nail bar, CHIPPED, in the Powerscourt Centre and she operates a subscription system that allows you to pay by the month for multiple visits.
Jeff Jones of Fields Jewellers did the honours to launch Kathy de Stafford's new collection of diamond engagement and wedding rings, along with diamond pendants and earrings, which will go into stores and online from February 1. Prices range from €995 to €4,500 and my favourite was the Art Deco ring in her 'Vintage' collection.
Psst! Pippa O’Connor was pictured with Debbie O’Donnell at the Brown Thomas SS18 showcase, where Pippa’s new range of candles will be sold in store. She also held a lunch at Guilbaud’s this week to launch the candles and her line of planners.
