Black suit, black tie, black eye! A shiner from a bruising game against Wales the previous night was Johnny Sexton's ultimate accessory when the Ireland no 10 attended the Moulin Rouge Ball in aid of the Crumlin Children's Medical & Research Foundation held at the Clayton Hotel Burlington Road last Saturday night.
Enjoying a glam night out with his wife, Laura, Johnny is one of the sporting ambassadors for the CMRF along with fellow rugby player Rob Kearney, who attended the ball with his girlfriend, Jess Redden. Another ambassador who makes regular visits to the hospital to visit the young patients is former Ireland soccer captain Robbie Keane, who came along to the ball with his wife, Claudine. The ball attracted an attendance of 540 and was emceed in sporting style by Barry Murphy of Après Match fame.
Earlier in the week, the fash pack were out en masse for the opening of the Poco by Pippa pop-up jeans store in Dundrum Town Centre. Looking fab in an embroidered bomber by Needle & Thread at Brown Thomas, Pippa confided to me that there was news afoot, and I was all ears. Pippa - pictured above with her sister and right-hand woman, Susanna - isn't resting on her laurels. Five months after launching her jeans range with her husband, Brian Ormond, she is introducing more new styles soon, including a 'Tummy Tuck' cut!
Pippa promised they will be available in a few weeks in a heavier, light-blue denim, just in time for the Easter holidays. This week, she's introducing the 'All Stars' in jet black and light blue - a high-rise skinny inspired by It-girls Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid. She's also reprising her 'Slimmers' style in a grey and an off-white, which Pippa thinks is more flattering than the super-bright white. I couldn't agree more.
Love was in the air at Galway's Ardilaun Hotel last Sunday as Ireland AM showbiz correspondent Noel Cunningham, pictured with in-house wedding planner Maureen Walsh, above, shared advice on wedding etiquette and trends for 2017. "Bling is so last year - it's so over," said Noel, who was applauded by one father of the bride when he announced that the men's bow-ties don't have to match the bridesmaids' dresses. Noel also urged brides not to be bullied into hairstyles or beauty regimes but "to be yourself on your big day". The It's All About Food wedding event was hosted by the hotel's new executive head chef, Ultan Cooke, and the Guinness Jazz Trio helped get guests in the party mood, as did Prosecco and delicious Pimm's made with homemade lemonade.
Cider bellinis and prizes from Christian Louboutin, Boss and Marc Jacobs were on the menu when Irish cider brand Bulmers hosted a 'big reveal' party in Fade Street Social last Wednesday to unveil their new branding and TV ad.
Psst! The necklace worn by Vivien Leigh in ‘Gone with the Wind’ and Grace Kelly’s earrings from ‘High Society’ will be part of the Rare Hollywood Jewellery exhibition opening at the Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons this Monday
