Young woman who lost sister and cousin in Berkeley balcony tragedy will be San Francisco Rose for Tralee festival
A young woman who lost her sister and cousin in the Berkeley Balcony collapse will be the San Francisco Rose at this year's Rose of Tralee Festival.
Amanda Donohoe (20) lost her sister Ashley and her Dublin-based cousin Olivia Burke on June 16, 2015, when the fourth floor balcony of a rented apartment collapsed.
The fatal accident also claimed the lives of Eimear Walsh and Lorcan Miller along with Niccolai Schuster and Eoghan Culligan.
Amanda will be taking part in the 58th Rose of Tralee over seven days in August. Her proud parents Jackie and George said on Facebook: "You never cease to amaze us. You are our inspiration." She will be running in the VHI Ladies Mini Marathon over the June Bank Holiday weekend, aiming to raise €3,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.
The young woman revealed the cause is close to her heart as a cousin has cystic fibrosis: "I want to give back and support the Irish community as they were there for me and my family in my darkest hour when the Berkeley balcony collapsed."
"I'm very excited for the Rose of Tralee Festival to celebrate all the amazing and strong women that the Irish community has produced around the world."
