Young van driver (21) dies in early-morning crash

A YOUNG man has died in a single vehicle crash in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Gardaí in Milford are appealing for witnesses following the fatal collision in Co. Donegal.

"At approximately 1.40am Gardaí and Emergency Services were called to the scene of a single vehicle collision involving a van on the on a local road at Cottian near Kilmacrennan," a garda spokesman said.

"The occupant of the van, a 21-year-old man, was taken by ambulance to Letterkenny General Hospital.  He was pronounced dead a short time later."

The scene of the collision is preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local traffic diversions are in place. The Coroner has been notified.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at Milford Garda Station 074-9153060 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian has been seriously injured in a separate collision this morning.

Gardaí in Navan are appealing for witnesses following the collision in Co. Meath.

"At approximately 4.35am a 33-year-old male pedestrian was seriously injured when he was struck by a car on the Kentstown Road, Navan. Gardaí and Emergency Services were called to the scene. The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.," a garda spokesman said.

"His condition is understood to be serious. The driver of the car was uninjured.

The scene of the collision is preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local traffic diversions are in place.
