Young reporter dies in crash
Carolina Ferreira arrived in Ireland from Brazil in 2006 when she was 23. She came here from the provincial city of Divinopolis, eight hours by road from Rio de Janeiro, with her heart set on a journalism career.
While here, she completed a Masters in Journalism at Independent Colleges at night, worked in a furniture store during the day and did some freelance writing for the Sunday Independent in her spare time. She had a lot of plans and promise for her future as a journalist. She liked to cover stories with a humanitarian angle and was dedicated and committed to her work.
She loved Ireland and made Dublin her home for over five years. Carolina made the most of her time in Ireland; she embraced Irish culture and left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
Recently, Carolina returned to Brazil to continue her journalism career, basing herself in Rio de Janeiro. It was there that tragedy struck last week when she was killed in a road traffic accident. Her colleagues here and her friends from college all remember her fondly.
