Young man dies following fatal car crash in early hours of the morning

A 28-year-old man has died following a single vehicle collision in the early hours of this morning.

The collision occurred at Rathronan, Clonmel, Tipperary at approximately 1.20am Tuesday morning.

The passenger of the car was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in hit a ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 20-year-old male, was taken to South Tipperary Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Gardai are currently investigating the incident and are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have been in the area between 1a.m. and 1.30a.m. this morning to contact them in Clonmel Garda Station on 052 - 6177640, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

The road is currently closed to facilitate a Garda Forensic Collision Examination and local diversions are in place.

The man’s dearth brings to 38 the number of people killed on Irish roads this year.
