A YOUNG man was critically ill in hospital last night after he was struck on the head during a row at a house in west Dublin.
The victim was named last night as Keith Hannigan (25), of Wheatfield Grove, Clondalkin.
He was rushed by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital with serious head injuries after being assaulted in the driveway of a house at nearby Wheatfield Avenue at around 1am yesterday. Mr Hannigan was then transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he underwent surgery. He was later described as being in a critical condition.
Gardai detained a man in his 30s who was being questioned last night at Ronanstown garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act,
Officers believe Mr Hannigan became involved in a row with another man outside the house where he was found. He received a punch and fell to the ground, hitting his head on the road.
Gardai at Ronanstown have appealed for any witnesses to contact them.
