Worried mums call helpline ahead of first CAO offers

MOTHERS of Leaving Cert students were the main callers to the National Parents Council post primary helpline yesterday.

There were a lot of queries about having results rechecked and CAO procedures, ahead of the first round of college offers on Monday.

The helpline, which is staffed by members of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors, has taken more than 700 calls to date, and yesterday more than 80pc were from mothers.

The helpline -- 1800 265 165 -- is sponsored by eircom and the Irish Independent and supported by the Department of Education. It will open again on Monday.
