A GROUP of telecommunications workers are taking an urgent court action in a bid to stop the loss of their jobs, writes Nicola Anderson.
The 19 workers, who are working on the maintenance of the mobile telephone network controlled by BT, will go before the circuit court in Dublin seeking a ruling that they are entitled under legislation to "follow" their contract to a new employer.
BT has informed the current contract holder, Obelisk Communications Ltd, that the contract will be carried out by two new operators in future.
These are VNE Logistics Ltd in Dublin and OC Power Generation in Cork. Both organisations are defendants in the cases before the court today.
