Workers can earn up to €7,500 without losing the dole next year
Part-time, casual and seasonal workers will be able to earn up to €7,500 a year without losing the dole from New Year's Day.
A person will be able to hold down a job once they do not go over this threshold, and keep the full Jobseeker's Benefit.
The amount that can be earned now is €4,622 a year, which is €12.70 an hour or €88.90 a week.
Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection Regina Doherty said it will allow people to take work when it is scarce. She said the only work available for some in parts of rural Ireland and remote communities may be seasonal - whether in agriculture, fishing or tourism.
The new rate takes price inflation into account.
It will allow workers to earn up to €7,500 over a 12 month period, or €144 on a weekly basis. The current rate was last set in 1991.
