
A woman was arrested after driving into the gates of Government Buildings on Merrion Street in Dublin.
The incident occurred shortly after 10am when the woman, an Irish national in her 50s who was on her own in the car, crashed into the heavy steel gates at the entrance to the Department of the Taoiseach.
She was immediately arrested and taken to Pearse Street garda station where she was questioned.
She could be held for up to 24 hours.
Gardaí are investigating the reason for why the car was driven at the railings.
A small nativity crib could be seen on the floor behind the driver's seat, complete with a small set of battery-operated lights.
