A MIDDLE-AGED woman was left shocked but uninjured after armed raiders stole a quantity of cash from her home.

The 52-year old woman was confronted by three masked raiders, one of whom had a rifle, when she returned to her home at Dromboy, Carrignavar, Co Cork, shortly before 10pm last  night.

The terrified woman was tied up in a chair while the three men ransacked her home.

They fled in a waiting car after they found a quantity of cash.

The woman, who was the only occupant of the house, was later able to free herself and raise the alarm.

She was uninjured by her ordeal but is said to be very shocked.

She is staying with friends pending a detailed interview with Gardai

Gardai said they believed it was a targeted rather than a random raid as the men were armed and also wore gloves throughout.

The raiders also showed no interest in electrical or other goods and were hunting only for cash and jewellery.

Mayfield Gardai have appealed for anyone who may have spotted suspicious activity around Carrignavar to contact them.
