A woman in her 50s has been killed in a single vehicle collision in the early hours of this morning.

The collision occurred on the Galway-Clifton road in the village of Moycullen at around 4.30am.

A woman, believed to be in her mid 50s, was fatally injured when the vehicle she was driving collided with a wall.

A male passenger in his early 50s was not seriously injured.

The deceased was removed to University Hospital Galway, and a post mortem is to be arranged.

The injured man was also taken to University Hospital Galway.

The road at the scene is closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witness or anyone who was on the N59 close to Moycullen Village between 4am - 5am, Saturday 2nd August 2014, to contact them at Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
