A 46-year-old woman was killed after her car went out of control and hit a tree in Co Kilkenny yesterday.

Kay Moore, who was married with two daughters in their 20s, was the sole occupant of the car that crashed at Kildalton, Piltown, just after midnight. She was a first cousin of Sharon Whelan, the young woman murdered with her two daughters in Windgap, Co Kilkenny, on Christmas Day 2008.

Appeal for help to find missing man

Gardai are appealing for assistance in tracing the whereabouts of Paul Fitzgerald (35) of Birchwood, Co Waterford, and formerly of Co Wexford, who was reported missing from his home on Monday.

He was last seen at 9am on Monday wearing navy jeans, white runners and a greenish turtleneck jacket. He is described as being 5ft 10ins in height, of slim build, with short brown, greying hair. Gardai at Waterford investigating the matter can be contacted on (051) 305300.

Housing starts slump again

The number of housing starts slumped again in September, with just 94 new home registrations recorded in the month.

There were no registrations in counties Cavan, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Monaghan and Roscommon, figures from structural insurance firm Homebond show. So far this year there have been 1,476 registrations.

Adams hearing to begin next month

An extradition hearing in the case of Liam Adams -- the brother of Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams -- who is wanted in the North on charges of rape and indecent assault against his daughter, is due to go ahead next month.

Mr Adams, of Bernagh Avenue in Belfast, denies all the charges, and is contesting his extradition. Judge Michael Peart adjourned the matter until November 15 and has remanded Mr Adams on continuing bail.

Gardai search for teenage boy

GARDAI are appealing for help from the public in tracing the whereabouts of a 13-year-old boy who has been missing since Wednesday.

Ryan Delaney was last seen at Liffey Valley Shopping Centre in Blanchardstown, Co Dublin. He is approximately 5ft tall, of slim buil, with brown hair and blue eyes.

When last seen, he was wearing a grey tracksuit top, grey bottoms, and Adidas runners with a blue stripe.
