ONE woman died and a family of four were injured after a horrific head-on collision yesterday.

The accident occurred at 11.55am at Camolin on the N11 Gorey to Enniscorthy Road in north Wexford. Two cars collided head-on, with the 54-year-old female driver of one vehicle being pronounced dead at the scene.

Four people in the second vehicle -- a man and woman in their 40s and their two sons, aged 17 and eight -- were injured.

All four were transferred to Wexford General Hospital, but their injuries are not understood to be life threatening.

Weather conditions are not believed to have been a factor in the accident.

Gardai will not release the name of the dead woman -- who was the only occupant of one car -- until all relatives have been notified.

Gorey gardai appealed for anyone who saw the accident or the vehicles involved in the minutes before the tragedy to contact them at 053 9430690 or via the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111.
