Woman charged with killing mother-of-three

A 54-year-old woman appeared in court today charged with killing a mother more than two years ago.

Lillian Scanlan, 48, was found dead on the kitchen floor of her home in the Valley Court area of Athlone on May 9, 2008.

The mother-of-three, originally from Clara in Co Offaly, was last seen alive in the rented house the night before.

Agnes McCarthy, from the Garden Vale area of Athlone, was remanded on bail charged with manslaughter. Judge David Anderson ordered her to appear before Athlone District Court on October 13.

Ms Scanlan suffered a number of injuries to her body before dying.
