A man has died overnight following a stabbing incident in North Dublin.

Gardai are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the 36-year-old following an incident at a house in Phibsboro in Dublin.

Emergency services were called to Philbsboro road shortly after 10.30pm last night, where they reportedly found the man suffering from multiple stab wounds.

The man was taken from the scene by ambulance to The Mater Hospital  but was later pronounced dead in the early hours of this morning.

A Garda spokesperson said that a woman in her mid-40s had been arrested in connection with the incident, and that she was currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act (1984) at Mountjoy Garda Station.

The scene is preserved pending a forensic and technical examination and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.
