A mother was last night recovering in hospital after she was injured during a violent double-stabbing attack.
The victim, a woman from Cork, has been named locally as Donna Foster, who is aged in her 40s.
Ms Foster was injured during a knife attack in a house in the Cooline area of Cobh, Co Cork, yesterday morning.
A young girl, who is aged in her early teens, also sustained injuries in the attack.
It is believed that the incident developed in the property early yesterday morning.
Gardai and emergency services attended the scene and said the woman and the teenager had sustained their injuries between 10 and 11am yesterday morning.
Ms Foster was rushed to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment.
She remained there last night as she recovered from her wounds.
She was described as being in a serious but stable condition.
The teenager was also treated in CUH for minor injuries but was later released.
A man, who is aged in his 50s, was also involved in the violent incident.
He was detained by gardai and remained in custody at Cobh Garda Station last night for questioning.
Ms Foster is known as a successful businesswoman and is a popular beautician in the coastal town.
"Donna is fabulous, an absolutely gorgeous girl," one local woman said last night. "I know the family well, I know her mum's family."
"Donna is very elegant.
"I am so shocked, Donna comes from the most beautiful and respectful family in the town," the woman said.
"Her family are pillars of the community in every way, shape and form.
"They are a very community-orientated family," she added.
