A woman in her 50s is recovering after being tied up by masked men during a burglary at her home.

A fire was also started in an upstairs room of the property in School Road outside Clough in Co Down.

The woman was rescued by two members of the public.

She was uninjured but left shocked by the ordeal, police said.

The incident happened at about 1pm on Monday.

The thieves, who stole an iPad and a MacBook, fled the scene in a grey-coloured Peugeot 206 car, which was found burnt out at The Old Mill in Clarkill Road, Castlewellan, shortly after midnight.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland have appealed for anyone who saw suspicious activity to contact detectives at Ardmore station.
