Woman (49) killed in two-car collision this morning

A 49 year-old woman was killed when the car she was driving collided with another car this morning.

Gardaí are investigating the two-car fatal road crash which occurred in Westmeath this morning.

The crash occurred at Cornafulla, old N6, Athlone - Ballinasloe Road at around 9am.

She was brought to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe County Galway where she was pronounced dead. A post mortem is to be arranged.

The male driver of the second vehicle was also brought to Portiuncula Hospital, with non-life threatening injuries.

The road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place.
