GARDAÍ in Cork are investigating if a shooting in the city last night was linked to an ongoing feud.

A 21-year-old girl was rushed to hospital last night after she allegedly received a gunshot wound to her neck.

Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

One male (29) and one female (22) were arrested shortly after the incident and are being held at Gurranabraher and Bridewell garda stations under section 30 of the Offences Against the State act.

It is believed the male was known to gardaí.

The shooting took place shortly before 1am when at least one shot was fired at the front of a house in the Hollywood Estate in Knocknaheeney.

A bullet went through a sitting room window and a door was also smashed in the attack.

The injured girl is not thought to be linked to the feud.

However, gardaí are examining the possibility that the attack was linked to an argument between occupants of the house.

Neighbours said they heard at least one gunshot before gardaí arrived last night.

“I was listening to the radio with headphones on but my daughter came in and told me she had heard a gunshot.

“I thought it was a car backfiring but then I saw all the blue nights outside and knew something had happened.

“This feud has been going on a while between two different families.”

Another neighbour said she was worried about the feud escalating to this level.

“I heard the shot between 12am and 12.30am last night. I got up out of bed but only heard one gunshot at the front of the house.

“All the windows were smashed in in that house last year.

“The victims are a lovely family so it is terrible to see this go on.”
