What better way for the Irish team to relax ahead of the next Australian Rules game tomorrow than to try their hand at one of the national pastimes?

Yesterday, Tadhg Kennelly, above, Colm Begley and Joe McMahon visited Surfers Paradise Beach on the Gold Coast.

The 'Rules' team arrived in Australia a week-and-a-half ago and have been training hard since, so it was time for a break.

On RTE's 'Six One News' the players joked around on the beach about their surfing skills.

Mayo's Pearse Hanley said: "Here we are at Surfers Paradise and we are working very hard."

Laois's Colm Begley joked about his teammates' skills: "Kieran Donaghy did very well; we thought he would have no chance whatsoever but Tommy Walsh is just too big... he's no balance whatsoever."

Donegal's Karl Lacey was the only player to manage to lay two feet on the surfboard yesterday, which he put down to Donegal's famed surfing tradition.
