The fresh spring weather we have become accustomed to in recent days is set to break next week with wintry showers, low temperatures and frost on the way.

It's not all bad news however, as this weekend is set to to be mainly dry with the mercury set to hit 15 degrees in some places on Sunday.

On Saturday it is set to stay dry but Ulster will be cold, with temperatures as low as six degrees and frost predicted.

But Sunday is set to be "dry with bright or sunny spells" with just a few showers.

However, on Monday temperatures will drop and will turn wintry overnight.

"Tuesday will be a cold day with sunshine and scattered showers, a few of them heavy. Some will be wintry," the national forecaster said.

Frost is also predicted for Monday to Wednesday night, with temperatures falling to zero degrees.

"Current indications suggest that Thursday and Friday will be unsettled with some rain or showers at times," Met Eireann said.
