Winter solstice takes a bizarre turn as man climbs mound naked Newsdesk Newsdesk

The annual pilgrimage to Newgrange for the winter solstice took a strange twist this morning when a man scaled the structure naked.

A video of the bizarre event as emerged online and it shows the man climbing up the stone mound and striking a pose when reaching the top.

People watched on, shouting warnings about 'health and safety'.

Every year hundreds of people gather at the historic landmark in Co Meath for the winter solstice in the hope of seeing the rising sun light the inner chambers of the 5,000 year old monument.

On Wednesday morning visitors were left disappointed after Met Eireann declared there would be "no sunrise" for the event.
