The winner of the weekend Lotto jackpot worth over €5.8m has made contact with the National Lottery to claim their prize.

The winning ticket, a €5 Quickpick, was bought at the General Post Office on Cecil St, Limerick, on Saturday.

The winning numbers were 4, 16, 18, 24, 32, 35 and the bonus was 6.

A National Lottery spokesperson confirmed to Independent.ie that the winner had been in touch with their claims team today.

The massive prize, €5,868,553, is the second big Lotto windfall for Limerick in a matter of months.

One person won almost €3m in September after buying the ticket at Coughlan's Gala store on Quinlan Street.

At the time the manager of the store said that "speculation was rife".

Since then, the lucky winner has made contact with the National Lottery.
