Met Eireann are forecasting widespread frost for the east of the country tonight as temperatures are set to plunge to freezing.

A dry and clear night is on the way for most of the country according to the forecasters and that will see the temperature dip to between zero and two degrees in the east of the country overnight.

In the west of the country things will be a little better, with temperatures ranging between three and six degrees.

However, Atlantic coastal counties will see the worst of the weather during the day, with heavy and regular showers bringing with them a risk of hail and thunder.

The rest of the country should see a brighter day, with sunshine and highest temperatures of between seven and nine degrees.

The rest of the week looks a little warmer, with tomorrow seeing rain and drizzle spread over the country, moving temperatures back into double figures.

Thursday looks set to be a mixture of sunshine and showers, though it may become windy on Atlantic coasts.

It looks like Friday may see some heavy rain in some parts while the outlook for the weekend is for things to turn cooler again, with more frost likely.
