White van man sees red over new laws
A van driver yesterday launched the first stage of his campaign against restrictive laws for commercial vehicle owners.
Painter-decorator Tom Fitzgerald (left) painted a large red 'X' on the side of his van for his protest drive from Limerick to Cork, where he delivered a letter seeking an amnesty on the legislation to the offices of Green Party senator Dan Boyle.
The 49-year-old, from Askeaton, Co Limerick, admits he uses his commercial-registered van for a couple of hours a week for private purpose.
According to a recent get-tough circular issued to local authorities, commercial vehicles should "not be used for social, domestic or pleasure purposes".
