Wet weekend ahead as Met Éireann issues weather warning for seven counties
This weekend looks set to be a wet one as Met Éireann has issued a yellow rain warning for seven counties.
The warning is in place from 6pm this evening until 6pm Saturday evening for Galway, Mayo, Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Offaly and Tipperary, with between 30 to 50mm of rain expected.
There will be some sunny spells in the east of the country but the wet weather will slowly make its way across the country later tonight.
Meanwhile, westerly winds will reach force 6 or higher at times today on all Irish coasts.
Temperatures of between 4 to 8 degrees are expected on Friday night.
On Saturday, temperatures will fall to as low as 2 degrees with some light frost expected.
Overall, the weekend weather looks set to be changeable and unsettled.
The Road Safety Authority is warning drivers to be careful and to avoid areas prone to flooding.
They have issued the following advice for drivers:
- Braking distances are longer on wet roads so slow down and leave room between your car and the vehicle
- Allow extra space between your vehicle and cyclists and motorcyclists
- Use dipped headlights when visibility is poor
