Dublin Zoo welcomed its latest new arrival today. It’s a white crowned mangabey monkey named Sunyani, after a region in Ghana where it is found in the wild.
“We are particularly proud of the new arrival as it is the first second-generation birth among our group of mangabeys,” said Dublin Zoo’s Helen Clarke-Bennet.
But the keepers do not yet know if the newborn is a boy or a girl.
White crowned mangabeys are endangered in the wild and their numbers are rapidly declining.
Dublin is just one of only 12 zoos in Europe which is participating in this breeding programme.
