Weekender: Sarah Caden's walking Miami
You can hit the ground walking on a Friday night in Miami if you fly direct with Aer Lingus. The feet might be a bit swollen from the flight, but what better way to ease them than to stroll up the boardwalk that runs parallel to Collins Avenue? Regret that you didn't bring your running gear, and feel healthy again after apple and ginger shots in Joe & The Juice on the corner of 17th Street.
Flip-flops are fine for a Saturday afternoon walking around Little Havana, which is as small as the name suggests and only covers a few blocks. No blisters, even if you've come from shoes and socks back home in wintry Ireland. Try home-made ice cream in Azucar, and the famous mojitos next door in Ball & Chain.
If you've packed heels, you can easily cope with Saturday night on Lincoln Road, which is mostly pedestrianised and peppered with enough bars, cafes and restaurants to give the feet a rest, if needed.
If you aren't scared of spoiling your glam rags, check out the messy but magical taco fries in Shake Shack. It's next door to the chic standalone Stella McCartney athleisure store, so maybe drop in there before eating the fries, while you're still feeling virtuous.
Should summer footwear prove too much for a strolling visit to Miami, there's no shame in cracking out the runners. In Miami, they wear them brand new, even unboxing them on the beach. You might just find yourself buying a running pair, for that boardwalk-jog experience.
