'We paid €450 for new tickets before flight was reinstated'
A surprise birthday trip to Disneyland has turned into a costly nightmare after Ryanair cancelled a family's flight home - only to reinstate it hours later after passengers had already paid for alternative flights.
Lorraine Teevan, from Co Cavan, surprised her five-year-old daughter Noelani with the dream trip as a birthday present.
However, just moments before the mother and daughter boarded their flight to Paris yesterday, Lorraine received an email from Ryanair saying their return flight tomorrow evening had been cancelled.
This was despite the return flight from Paris Beauvais at 10.25pm on Thursday not being included in a list of flight cancellations released by the airline on Monday.
Ms Teevan, a photographer, said: "I flew out to Paris at 6.40am and just as I was about to board the flight my phone beeped with an email.
"I was told that the flight we were coming back on was cancelled.
"This is really annoying - I checked the cancelled list (the night before) and it wasn't on it. I checked it again (yesterday)and it is still not on it." Ms Teevan said she was given the option of returning tomorrow at 9am but said they would not be able to get to the airport on time. Instead she booked a flight home at 5pm with Aer Lingus out of Charles de Gaulle Airport. The tickets set her back €451 and she had to pay for new transfers. But then, to add insult to injury, Ryanair reinstated the flight - too late for Ms Teevan, who had already paid for the new flights.
"They're just messing us around," said an exasperated Ms Teevan. "It's all very frustrating."
Ryanair said in a statement: "This flight was cancelled in error and has since been reinstated. All customers have been notified."
