Water meter protesters arrested
Eleven people were arrested when they staged an unofficial sit-down protect after an anti-water meter rally in Dublin.
Gardai said six men and five women were detained when they sat in the centre of O’Connell Street and refused to move.
Earlier, thousands of people took part in a peaceful anti-water meter protest outside the GPO, and the majority dispersed at around 4pm as arranged with gardai.
A small group, not believed to be connected with the official demonstration, remained and sat on the main thoroughfare after it reopened to traffic and were arrested by members of the public order unit.
