Watchdog in warning over farming deaths
A safety watchdog has warned a surge in deaths on farms last year "gives a terrible sense of deja vu".
The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, which works with business and government to reduce injuries, said there was a critical need to improve safety standards.
It was commenting after the Health and Safety Authority's latest figures showed deaths in the agriculture sector have soared in the past three years.
There were 21 deaths in the industry last year. However, there was a 13pc drop in the number of workplace deaths in all sectors last year as 47 people died in accidents, compared with 54 deaths in 2011.
