WATCH: 'There was a great atmosphere' A-list buskers sing 'Fairytale of New York' to wedged crowd on Grafton Street
This was the scene in Grafton Street yesterday, just before Gardai were forced to end a star studded busking session for health and safety reasons.
Hozier, Glen Hansard, Gavin James and Danny O'Reilly from Coronas all performed three songs at the event before gardai requested that the event end.
The gardai said they had to cancel because the crowd was too big and blocking off the street.
"We have spoken to the organisers and they have agreed that the crowd is too big. Grafton Street is no place for a concert. They will have to organise it better next year," a garda at the scene said.
Photographer Danni Fro was there with friends when the performance began.
"There was a great atmosphere on Grafton, with crowds beginning to gather from about 4pm," she said.
"It was really unfortunate when such an event that happens once a year to be disallowed, but, I suppose it mirrors a lot of what is going on lately with decibel limitations on amplification below the ambient street noise level."
The party continued in Whelan's music venue, where the stars continued to play. Danii (21) was there too to keep the party going.
"Knowing many of the musicians I left with them for a secret outing to Whelans, although like most things in Dublin, it doesn't stay secret for very long," the Stillorgan native said.
"Shortly after sitting down with my nice pint of Guinness, others joined. Singing along to songs we sang as we were sitting around the fire. "
