WATCH: Freak Weather - Irish Airport covered in blanket of snow today

Freak weather conditions brought snow showers around the country, and Ireland West Airport in Knock was under a blanket of snow for an hour today.

April has brought a very mixed bag weather-wise - with beautiful sunny spells regularly ruined by downpours of rain, hail, sleet and even snow. Shorts and t shirts will have to remain in the cupboards as the changeable weather continues.

Ireland West Airport Knock shared a video showing their runway totally covered beneath a blanket of thick snow, after it fell over the course of just one hour earlier today.

Airport staff looked to capitalise on the situation by offering skiing lessons on the runway.

"Anyone fancy a bit of skiing we have some great late deals for ski lessons at the airport this evening smile emoticon all today's flights operated as normal particularly the flights to the Canary Islands!!! ‪#‎snowinginApril‬," staff said on Facebook.

Despite the bizarre conditions the airport remained fully operational with no delays reported. It seems the snow has already melted as a further picture was upoaded showing beautiful blue skies over the airport just one hour later.
