Watch: Emergency services begin their call-outs as Ophelia starts to batter the country Newsdesk Newsdesk

Emergency services have started responding in Co Kerry as Hurricane Ophelia has now made landfall.

Footage recorded by in Tralee shows emergency water tenders calling out to homes.

Ambulances and gardai are also on standby and ready to assist.

Thousands of home across Cork and Kerry have already been left without power and the worst is yet to hit.

ESB Networks said more than 22,000 customers are currently without power.
