Wallace slams garda penalty points report

Michael Brennan Deputy Political Editor

Independent TD Mick Wallace has criticised the two garda reports into the quashing of penalty points.

He and three other Independent TDs - Clare Daly, Luke 'Ming' Flanagan and Joan Collins - have launched their own 18-page response to the internal garda review and the separate report by the Garda Professional Standarfds Unit.

Mr Wallace said the two reports had failed to adhere to the standards of natural justice because it involved senior gardai investigating senior gardai. And he said that the internal reports had not given the garda whistleblowers who highlighted the quashing of penalty points an opportunity to present their case.

Mr Wallace has received an apology from Justice Minister Alan Shatter - who had used confidential garda information to reveal on television that Mr Wallace was let off by gardai after being caught using his mobile phone while driving.
