Walker finds fisherman's body in river

THE body of a middle-aged man was recovered from a river yesterday.

The 56-year-old -- named locally last night as Michael Healy from Churchfield Gardens, Cork -- was found in the River Sullane at St Colman's Park about 1km outside Macroom.

Gardai stressed that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

However, it is unclear whether the man -- a keen fisherman -- may have suffered a heart attack and then fallen into the water or simply lost his footing and drowned.

The body was spotted floating in the river shortly before 1pm by a passer-by.
