A female pedestrian has been struck by a car and killed in Co Donegal.

She is the second pedestrian to lose their life in the county in recent days following the death of Emmett McClelland at the weekend.

The woman was struck by a passing vehicle and killed outside Buncrana on the Inishowen Peninsula at around 9pm last night.

The crash occurred on the R238 Buncrana-Carndonagh road at Umricam, close to the well-known North Pole bar.

Gardaí said they were investigating the circumstances of the crash.

The woman's identity has not yet been released until all her relatives have been informed.

She is the fourth person to die on Donegal's roads so far this year.

The tragedy comes just days after Mr McClelland, from Shantallow in Derry, died after he struck by a car following a night out with friends on Saturday at Bridgend.
