Virtual artist proves a massive festival attraction
RENOWNED contemporary artist John Gerrard will be among the artists contributing to this year's Terryglass Arts Festival later this month.
Celebrating its sixteenth year, the north Tipperary festival offers an exciting programme of arts, theatre, music, visual arts and performance for five days from August 13 to 17.
The festival is a true community project, organised by a 15-member local voluntary committee who take pride in seeing the population of Terryglass significantly increase in numbers for the duration of the festival.
This year's festival celebrates the visual arts and features native Irish artists who have achieved international success.
John Gerrard will exhibit 'Daylight Fan (Orbital Camera) 2009' a small-scale virtual sculpture. He has exhibited at La Biennale di Venezia, Italy (2009) and most recently at Borusan Contemporary in Istanbul, Turkey.
Sunday is family fun day featuring The Gingerbreadman puppet show from Miriam Lambert puppets, while local food producers and craftspeople will showcase their produce with tastings and demonstrations from the best Co Tipperary artisan producers.
For the family, the festival organisers have planned 55 workshops to be held over three days.
Tickets are available from The Derg Inn Shop, Terryglass or phone 087-2181663, or online at www.terryglassartsfestival.ie.
