VIDEO: Terrifying moment armed raiders pointed gun during €10k heist

Security specialist John Kinsella is one of the three innocent people held at gunpoint and has described the armed heist as "terrifying".

Mr Kinsella has spent his career analysing CCTV footage of serious crimes and he advises clients about how to deal with life and death situations such as violent armed robberies.

But he never dreamt that he would be looking at footage of himself being a victim of a terrifying hold-up.

The CCTV footage, which is exclusive to independent.ie, shows the moment when three raiders held up staff at John Molloy’s scrap metal yard in Ballycarney, Co Wexford.

In our footage, the three man gang can be seen entering the yard where they threaten an onlooker and then run almost run him down with their getaway car.

The footage then shows the raiders bursting into the office and threatening John Molly, his wife Patricia and John Kinsella, who was there to check that the new CCTV system he had installed was fully operational. John Kinsella is the owner of Accura Security Products.

“I have spent most of my career analysing CCTV footage and have watched many hours of horrifying moments like these happening to other people, but I never thought I would find myself as a star in my own show, looking down the barrel of a gun,” John told the independent.ie.

“It was an absolutely terrifying moment when the gang came bursting in.

“And I really believed that I was going to be shot. I even wondered would my wife have an open or closed casket for me,” he added.

Our video footage shows the gang arriving in Molloy’s Scrap yard on December 18th last in a stolen 2008 Audi.

In the first frames, two members of the gang threaten a man an innocent man who is was walking through the yard when they arrive.

The getaway driver then reverses the car at speed, narrowly missing the man while his accomplices run towards the main office in the hope of getting cash.

The next sequence of shots shows the terrifying scene inside the portakabin office s two of the raiders, including one armed with a pistol, threaten owner John Molloy, his wife Patricia, and John Kinsella who was there to check the CCTV system was working.

“It was a truly terrifying few minutes but I remember every second of it. They created a huge amount of noise to frighten us and I had no doubt that the gun was real and these guys were quite capable of harming us.”

The robbery, which was over in just two minutes,  saw the gang get away with €10,000.

Gardai said the quality of the CCTV footage was of high quality and they quickly identified the suspects.
