Varadkar goes bog snorkelling

Leo Varadkar is braced for plenty of mud slinging -- but it's not in the political arena.

Instead the Tourism Minister has agreed to take part in the annual Irish Bog Snorkelling championships today. More than 150 competitors are taking part in the fourth annual event at Doohamlet Bog, near Castleblayney, Co Monaghan.

Vintage rally gets back into top gear

ONE of the country's major vintage and veteran rallies takes place in Trim, Co Meath, tomorrow from noon.

The event usually takes place in July but the bad summer forced a delay. The entrance fee is €5 but children go free. All profits from the vintage rally go to local charities.

Elderly man in swim tragedy

AN elderly man died yesterday after he got into trouble at one of his favourite swimming spots.

Paramedics tried to revive Phil Murphy, who was in his 70s, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr Murphy, from Lombard Street in Dublin city, was swimming at Seapoint near Monkstown in the southside when he got in to difficulty shortly after 2pm.
