Varadkar aims to delay alcohol sponsor ban
CONTROVERSIAL proposals to ban alcohol sponsorships of sporting events are to be discussed by ministers next week, writes Fiach Kelly.
The proposals from Junior Health Minister Alex White will be discussed by the Cabinet's sub-committee on health.
Sports Minister Leo Varadkar is pushing for time to allow sporting organisations to adjust to alternative revenue streams. Mr Varadkar is also keen to ensure the ban does not impact on the viability of events such as the IRFU's bid to host the Rugby World Cup in 2023.
