US Embassy issues security warning as over 1,000 to attend protest in Dublin
The US Embassy in Dublin has warned American citizens to be wary of violence at a planned protest outside its headquarters this evening.
More than 1,000 people from across Ireland are expected to attend a protest at 6pm against US President Donald Trump's Executive Order banning citizens from seven nations from travelling to the US.
In a statement released last night, the embassy advised US citizens to be vigilant about their personal security. "Even protests intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests or demonstrations," the statement read.
"Review your security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates. Be vigilant and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security."
