Mayo-based Northgate Public Services has announced its plans to double its workforce in Ireland with the creation of 150 jobs.

The firm plans to make the positions available over the next three years at a new facility in Co Mayo.

It is understood that Northgate will set up in an existing premises in the Castlebar area for the new unit.

The private company operates a newborn screening programme for the HSE in maternity hospitals and runs computer files management systems for several other hospitals.

The company will be looking for employees to fill a number of IT roles and support roles for existing services provided by the company. 

Recruitment is expected to begin early next year.
